Oleic Functional Coupling Agent Available for R&D Sampling
BAYONNE, N.J., Oct. 24, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — “There is market pressure to use domestic plant derived sustainable materials in polymeric compositions. We chose the American pine tree as an oleic acid raw material source for our new titanate as it is widely available and eliminates any supply logistics concerns; comes from responsibly managed forests; is consistent in supply all year round; does not compete for land with food crops (non-edible); does not require land use change; is non-genetically modified (non-GMO); and palm oil free,” explains Sal Monte, Kenrich President/Owner/Inventor.
Monte is hopeful the new coupling agent with a 90% “bio-content” will gain commercial traction as a nano-surface modifier additive in new sustainable polymeric formulations. “Typical PMN (Pre-Manufacture Notification) evaluation times for a final determination of new chemical materials are taking about 12-14 months. Clearing the initial US EPA TSCA submission acceptance hurdle, we are free to sample the trade for ‘R&D purposes only’ to test for commercial efficacy – as we did 50-years ago when we introduced Ken-React® KR® TTS based on isostearic acid derived from a bright yellow flower named rapeseed, which is used widely to produce cooking oil. Titanates are the secret sauce that functionalize inorganics and organics at the atomic nano-interface to create new and novel compositions such as longer lasting lipstick or more powerful explosives safe from unplanned detonation, and thousands of other patented applications enabling more efficient use of raw materials.”
Kenrich – established 1945 – got its start producing an aromatic resin called Kenflex® A under a license from Socony Mobil, which led to making masterbatches of metal oxides for high voltage wire & cable. Since 1973, Kenrich has been a global supplier of Ken-React® organometallic coupling agents based on titanium, zirconium, and aluminum with 34 U.S. composition-of-matter patents attributed to Monte – a member of the Plastics Hall of Fame – class of 2021.
